How to Adopt
The Animal Rescue League of Boston requires the following documentation as part of the adoption process:
- Proof that adopter is 18 years of age or older
- A Massachusetts ID with valid current address (No Student IDs)
- Landlord’s name and phone number or proof of home ownership (tax bill, water bill or mortgage statement)
- Up-to-date veterinary records for any current pets, or your veterinarian's name and phone number with consent to obtain veterinary care history
- Potential adopters should bring along other dog(s) if adopting a dog
- Complete an application and interview with adoption personnel
Pet Adoption Fees
Cats under 4 months $140 DOGS UNDER 4 MONTHS $275
Cats 4 - 12 months $130 DOGS 4 - 12 MONTHS $240
Cats over 1 year $100 dogs OVER 1 YEAR $185
FERRETS $75 GUINEA PIGS $25
RABBITS $60 SMALL ANIMALS $15
Adoption fee includes the following:
- Initial health screening and veterinary examination
- Initial vaccinations
- Spaying or Neutering
- Up to $300 to treat any shelter-related illness within 2 weeks after adoption from Boston Veterinary Care
- Rabies vaccination for dogs, cats and ferrets
- Permanent microchip identification and registration
- Heartworm test and 1st dose of preventative medication for dogs
- Feline Leukemia and FIV (feline AIDS) test for cats
- Flea, tick and mite treatment as needed
- Deworming for intestinal parasites
- Tag, collar, and leash or carrier
